Historical accuracy and car envy

I can picture the car enthusiasts among you pulling your baseball caps off your heads, scratching the backs of your necks and wondering if the Morris car company was still producing the van in 1967. Well, I don't know, but please try not to let it ruin the analogy for you. I can also picture the psychoanalysts among you stroking your well-trimmed goatees (or bare chins, of course, if you are a female psychoanalyst, or indeed a clean-shaven male psychoanalyst) and contemplating the significance of a man intent on wallking across Europe using a car analogy to illustrate his lack of physical fitness. Hmmm ...... Could it perhaps be .... No, it couldn't possibly be an acute case of car envy, could it? I will admit that I have caught myself listening in on conversations where people have casually mentioned driving here or there, and then looking down at me poor battered legs and blistered feet, and feeling a twinge of something that might remotely resemble that thing psychoanalysts refer to as .... car envy.
